The history of Kumbh originates from the creation of the world. Kumbh Mela is basically a mass participation of Hindu devotees. It is celebrated every three years on rotational basis in the cities of Allahabad, Nashik, Haridwar and Ujjain. While Ardh Kumbh is held every six years at Allahabad and Haridwar. The most important of all is the Purna kumbh which takes place after twelve years on the all the four cities based on the planetary movements. Millions of people flock to the place to have a Shahi Snan on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankrati. But only the fortunate have the opportunity of a Shahi Snan during the Maha Kumbh due to its occurrence after many years. All these people arrive in the banks of Ganga on their own; they are not persuaded by anybody nor does any advertisement lure them. The mighty force drags these people to this place. In order to merge with the Supreme truth and attain liberation, hordes of people go this place.
It is believed that taking a holy bath in the Sangam helps to remove one’s sins which they might have done knowingly or unknowingly. A dip in the sacred river is once in a lifetime experience. It can be aptly called as festival of unity in diversity. Different tradition, people with diverse caste and creed, various cultures merge into one in this place. All of them gather here for a single purpose. It is not that only the Indians visit the Kumbh Mela, the tourist from various parts of the world shows their keen interest in spiritualism by their presence in large numbers. Some of them even plan their trip to India accordingly.
The sadhus in their various avatars, the philosophers, priest, the beggars, the weaker sections of society to the wealthy ones, common men, you will find an amalgamation of various types of people. All are treated equally and are present in the Kumbh Mela to get the blessings of the Supreme Power.
