Kerala government’s tourism department has taken initiative to start a hop-on hop-off boat service and water taxi service at Kochi and Muziris heritage site supposedly from this August. A P Anilkumar, state Tourism Minister said that initially they planned to start with three 25-seater AC boats for hop-on hop-off services at Kochi heritage site. He also added that this is the first time hop-on hop-off service is being introduced in India. Keeping the basic idea of providing a circular service at regular intervals, the sites in Kochi and Muziris would be linked with this service. It will cover important places like High Court Jetty, Marine Drive, Bolgatty Palace, Vypeen, Fort Kochi and Mattancherry.
Another key project in the flagship program of Kerala Tourism to be implemented during the next two years was Spices Route project. It aims to share the heritage among 31 countries along the old route. This initiative is expected to bring in a substantial number of foreign tourists to the state to trace its historic voyage. Another important project, Seaplane Project, which was abandoned earlier due to resistance from local fishermen group, is also expected to start by the end of this year in places devoid of any protest. All these projects will help to link one part of the state with another, make travel within the state convenient, promote heritage and peace and finally attract huge number of tourists from India itself and abroad.
