The Kalachakra Initiation is the apt occasion to experience the Buddhist way of life amidst the heavenly abode of the Himalayan Mountains. This year the 33rd edition of Kalchakra Initiation has been scheduled for 3-14 July (for future dates, Click Here) in the picturesque location of Leh, Ladakh. Interestingly, this year His Holiness the XIVth Dalai Lama will himself confer the Kalachakra Initiation. The initiation basically deals with the concept of time in Buddhism, the process of being reborn as an ideal human suited to enter this perfect universe and someone who swears to be compassionate to other living beings in his surroundings.
Like every year this time also the ceremony is expected to draw thousands of local and Indian and foreign tourists. At a distance of 10 kms from Leh, Ladakh, the “Buddha Garden” in Choglamsar, serves as the perfect venue for the dawning of enlightenment and harmony upon pupils. The picturesque Buddha Garden is a stretch of green field located on the banks of river Indus close to Shiwatsel Phodrang, the home of His Holiness the XIVth Dalai Lama. The 12 day initiation attracts individuals from morning to night. During the eight days of rituals for preparation, the monks prepare the mandala. Then students are initiated and are also allowed to see the complete sand mandala. The Dalai Lama along with other monks performs songs and prayers during the period. The whole of Leh, Ladakh booms with chimes, prayers and air of holiness. During the concluding part, monks release a positive energy of the mandala into the world via a final ritual.
