Yeah! This is what you’ll have to do, when you’re traveling to and in India. Practically not, but in terms of that you’ll have to keep your superiority or high class eminence or pompousness at lull and and be pretty humble. Since India’s multidimensional diversity more than often blows the minds of first time visitors. Not that the peninsula is bad to tour but it is stuffed with conflicting events, paradoxes and inconsistencies in every single element that to the end it’ll will completely baffle you, if you’re not already mentally prepared. So, better, practice becoming a street smart and adaptable!

The subcontinent swells with quirky inconsistency, heterogeneity and variances; this diversity can be spotted in each and every element of this country. When you touch down on India’s land, you’ll hear people discussing, contending or just prattling about few common topics. If observed, you can easily identify these main topics discussed almost in every part of India; they are cricket, politics and Bollywood. People of India are mad about cricket, crazy followers of Bollywood wannabes & hunks and strong abominators of politics.

Any type of personality is welcome to India for she will never let him get disappointed in the pursuits of his desires & likings. So, if you’re an ardent lover of nature and its dwellers (flora & fauna), you have then Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Tamilnadu etc on your count. You can also explore the rugged terrains of wildlife & bird sanctuaries and national parks across Rajasthan, Assam, Kerala, Gujarat etc. For those who have spiritual bent of mind, India has manifold religious sites and a big bunch of soul stirring philosophical epics. For appeasing your thirst of knowledge in spiritual and religious fields, visit Lumbini, Sarnath, Bodhgaya, Ajanta & Ellora and Khajuraho. If you’re adventurous, venturesome and a daring spirit, plunge into Goa, and enjoy the freaking days and rocking nights. Stroll around the Kerala beaches and sleep in the shade of palm trees, you’ll feel deep down an overwhelming peace and contentment.

Although it might get tough to digest such an immense potpourri, but after enjoying this much and witnessing so much diversity, you can never think India as a distorted piece of variations, but will remember forever as a sweet and interesting medley of differences.

Forged in the heart of rocks, Aurangabad situated Ajanta and Ellora caves are the epitomes of archaic Indian architecture and exemplification of sagacious craftsmanship. For the astounding intricate architectural details of these structures and an unmatchable manifestation of religion in them, these artifacts have been acclaimed as UNESCO World Heritage Site.

By seeing similitude in their elegant artistry, intriguing serenity and soothing grace, one can easily assume that both these caves were etched during same period. But, no! They had been constructed in different time periods, and are instilled with varied religious elements.

Ajanta caves are a complex of 30 caves, which are divided into two major groups. First group of caves was sculpted around 2nd century BCE, while second group was constructed around 600 BCE. Ajanta caves are imbibed with Buddhist religiosity. The main attribute of these caves are its wall paintings. These paintings are done very carefully; the painter has first formed a plain ground of mud-plaster and then with the use of tempera technique has dexterously painted on it. The subject of these drawings circle around Buddha and Bodhisattva. Inside these caves, there are chaitya-grihas and monasteries with pillars, frescoes, murals and aisles that are richly engraved. These engravings and paintings are quite devotional and inspiring; while some draw incidents from the life of Buddha, others depict Jataka tales.

Ellora caves were excavated out of Charanandri hills, and were constructed between 5th and 8th century. These are total 34 caves, which are categorized as per their religious theme- 12 Buddhist (caves 1-12), 17 Hindu (caves 13-29) and 5 Jain (caves 30-34). Each group has its own characteristic feature, which makes it unique among all. In Buddhist caves, the craftsmen have shown an adroit work of hands by giving stone look of wood. Similarly, Hindu caves comprise expansive galleries with engraved columns, carved panels and sprawling alcoves containing sculptures of various deities.
Forged in the heart of rocks, Aurangabad situated Ajanta and Elora caves are the epitomes of archaic Indian architecture and exemplification of sagacious craftsmanship.

The subject of these drawings circle around Buddha and Bodhisattvas.

Most ascetic of these groups of caves is that of Jain caves, that expresses austere devotion. The intricate carvings, beautifully etched shrines and ornate ceilings, all speak about specific dimensions of Jain philosophy and tradition.

Jaisalmer in Rajasthan is known as golden city and is situated in the picturesque Thar desert.
It is 575 km west from Jaipur the capital we reached at the hotel in the evening. On the way we saw the historic monuments, the police post everything made of yellow sand and yellow sand stone which is unique in its color. Historic monuments are all over the town, but the main attraction is the fort and the sand dunes.

Next day we visited the Jaisalmer fort in the morning. It was built in 1156 Ad by Rajput ruler Jaisal and is also know as Sonar Quila. We were amazed by the Islamic and Rajput style of which is out of the world. My brother inlaw who had come from states and is a excellent photographer was in his own world taking pictures and was totally oblivious of the surrounding. Fort has four majestic gates, Akhai pol, Ganesh pol, Suraj pol and Hawa pol. The main entrance gate Akhai pol is magnificent. . . . Raj Mahal, Laxminath temple and jain temples are some of the attraction with in the fort. . Regular source of water is still provided by the old wells inside.

It is also known for its following striking havelis which are the interesting aspect of the desert city

 SalamSingh ki haveli

 Nathmalji ki Haveli

Patwan Ki haveli—The jali work is amazing

 Shreenath Haveli

Shreenath haveli is still occupied by the descendants of Vyas family. The old carving on the ceiling and door are beautiful. Five rooms of the haveli are converted in to a small hotel, and you can live in a royal style.
You can also see one of the oldest liberary of India in the town where you can find some of the oldest and rarest manuscript and articles of old Jain tradition.

The visit to Thar desert is not complete unless you have taken a exotic Sam dune desert safari. Best way to get there is on camel back, We did the same and enjoyed the sloping sand dunes on our way. We reached the best spot one hour before the sun set and settled on the sand. After about half an hour to our pleasant surprise we saw a local boy of fifteen or sixteen singing a Rajasthani folk song on the flute. It was a mesmerizing and breathtaking experience. . On one side you could see the red and orange colors in the sky with specks of clouds and on the other side the melodious flute music in the background. I was in the seventh heaven. For my brother in law it was a photographers paradise, and he was totally oblivious of the surrounding.

The town is very colorful, vibrant and the people are extremely friendly. The desert festival are organised during Feb /March every year at the Sam sand dunes. Folk dances, camel races, puppet show and other cultural show are part of the festival.

Jaisalmer is very popular destination for the foreigners as well as Indians. A visit to Rajasthan is not complete unless you include this amazing town in your itinerary. So, what are you waiting for, book a jaisalmer tour now.

Dev Bhomi Dharamshala

Dharamsala in Himachal pradesh is known as Dev bhomi that is land of God. On one side It has the dense Deodar, pine and himachal Oak forest, on the other side it has snow covered Dhauladhar ranges rivers and streams. It is divided in to two parts. Upper Dharamsala which is at a height of approx 6500 /7000 ft. Tibetan settlement started in Mcleod ganj or upper dharamsala in 1959. In 1960 central Tibetan administration was moved here. And it is the home of Dalai lama. His presence has made Dharamsala a popular destination for tourists looking for india tour. In and around Meleodganj there are many monasteries, temple and schools. The town is very famous for the study in Buddhism and has many meditation centers.

Lower Dharamsala is at approx 2500 ft. It is the winter capital of Himachal Pradesh and the Secretariat is at Sidhbari. Next to this is the famous Chinmaya Ashram. Dharamsala also has the cricket stadium of international standard. IPL and other international matches have been held here. I must have visited Dharamsala at least thirty times in the last seven to eight years.

For stay I would recommend Dev cottages in Dharamkot which is one and a half miles from Mcleodganj it is beautiful drive through Devdeor forest. During one of our visit my husband and i were as usual sitting in the balcony and admiring the awesome Deodar forest and the mountains. The beauty is breath taking.Suddenly we heard the melodious voices of young village girls singing songs and dancing. I immediately knew that there was a marriage ceremony some where in the hills, as these songs were apart of the ceremony. The pahari folk song are based on the beautiful and soft ‘Pahari Rag’. Mohamed Rafis memorable evergreen song ‘Sohani rat dhal choki na jaane tum kab aaoge” is based on this rag and Naushad ji was the music director. It was an unforgettable evening. The memory is still very fresh.

You can take a day trip for Triund. Dharamkot is the starting point for the trek. Bhagsu waterfall is walking distance. Ask the hotel to arrange for the taxi for the day trip for the following places, it is very safe.

Naddi – it gives a spectacular view of the snow covered mountain in winter and beautiful view of the Kangra velly, Chamunda temple, Norbulingka institute, Chinmaya Ashram.

Palampur – Famous for the tea garden. You drive through the pine forest and the river and streams are flowing side by side.

Sidhpur – Karmapa lama is based here.

Historic fort of Kangra and kangra temple. It is approx 20 km from lower dharamsala. It has witnessed the ravages of Ghazni and the worst Kangra earthquake of 1905 and was rebuilt in its present form in 1920.

Connection to Dharamsala

From Delhi it is approx 525 km. By car it takes about 11hours and you can easily make it in one day. Airport is Gagal -it is 18 km from Dharamsala.
